July 2003            Water Smart Landscape Program – One of the principal developers of this program. The customer received a credit of $1.00 per square foot of turf that is replaced with xeriscape.        
       

¨      Coordinated the Water Smart Landscape Program for multi-family residential properties. Perform pre and post conversion property inspections of the landscape to ensure compliance with the program conditions.

¨      Answer homeowners’ and property managers’ questions about plants, troubleshoot irrigation and plant problems, and measure square footage of landscaped areas. Using ArcView GIS, draw areas of turf in order to calculate the square footage, and therefore the credit amount.

¨      Sell the idea of installing xeriscape to property managers and owners.

¨       Assist landscapers and property managers with landscape designs when converting from turf to xeriscape.

¨       Provide customer with historical water consumption analysis of their property.

¨       Give presentations to HOA Boards and other community associations regarding xeriscape, water savings, ways to improve poor irrigation practices, and the drought plan.


Water Smart Contractor Program
- Developed a class required for the Water Smart Contractor Program. Taught this class which included the seven principles of xeriscape, SNWA Programs, all City and Clark County ordinances as they apply to landscapes, and converting spray irrigation to a drip irrigation system. Assembled a book that landscape contractors can use in the field, which includes City and County ordinances.


Xeriscape Conversion Study -
Assisted in data collection of a 5-year study with the Bureau of Reclamation. Water consumption for different types of landscapes were analyzed and the benefits of converting a turf grass landscape to xeriscape were determined, specifically the amount of water saved at single family homes.


Other Projects

¨      Taught gardening and irrigation classes at the Desert Demonstration Gardens, a 2-acre botanical garden in Las Vegas. Classes I have taught include Beginning Desert Gardening, Lawn to Lush: Upgrade to Xeriscape, Winterizing Your Landscape and Irrigation, Xeriscape Basics, Understanding Drip Irrigation, and Drip Irrigation Workshop.

¨       Assisted management in the design and implementation of a Watering Guide, a much-needed educational tool in Las Vegas, advising how to properly water trees, shrubs, and grass.

¨       For three years, coordinated the annual Landscape Awards, sponsored by the Southern Nevada Water Authority, and served as a judge each year.

¨       Wrote conservation tips for www.SNWA.com website.
