– One of the principal developers of this program. The customer received a credit of $1.00 per square foot of turf that
is replaced with xeriscape.
¨ Coordinated the Water Smart Landscape Program for multi-family
residential properties. Perform pre and post conversion property inspections of the landscape to ensure compliance with the
program conditions.
¨
Answer homeowners’ and property
managers’ questions about plants, troubleshoot irrigation and plant problems, and measure square footage of landscaped
areas. Using ArcView GIS, draw areas of turf in order to calculate the square footage, and therefore the credit amount.
¨
Sell the idea of installing xeriscape
to property managers and owners.
¨
Assist landscapers and property managers
with landscape designs when converting from turf to xeriscape.
¨ Provide customer with historical water consumption analysis of
their property.
¨
Give presentations
to HOA Boards and other community associations regarding xeriscape, water savings, ways to improve poor irrigation practices,
and the drought plan.
Water Smart Contractor Program - Developed a class required for the Water
Smart Contractor Program. Taught this class which included the seven principles of xeriscape, SNWA Programs, all City and
Clark County ordinances as they apply to landscapes, and converting spray irrigation to a drip irrigation system. Assembled
a book that landscape contractors can use in the field, which includes City and County ordinances.
Xeriscape Conversion Study - Assisted in data collection of a 5-year study with the Bureau of Reclamation. Water
consumption for different types of landscapes were analyzed and the benefits of converting a turf grass landscape to xeriscape
were determined, specifically the amount of water saved at single family homes.
Other Projects
¨ Taught gardening and irrigation classes at the Desert Demonstration Gardens, a 2-acre
botanical garden in Las Vegas. Classes I have taught include Beginning Desert Gardening, Lawn to Lush: Upgrade to Xeriscape,
Winterizing Your Landscape and Irrigation, Xeriscape Basics, Understanding Drip Irrigation, and Drip Irrigation Workshop.
